​​Philadelphia Flower Show
"The Garden Electric"

The Spade and Trowel Club and members of the club have been exhibiting in the Philadelphia Flower Show for years.  We were proud to again exhibit in the 2023 Philadelphia Flower Show.  Our club created a display in the Windowsill class that illustrated the theme, which was "Best Light in the House".  A member of our club entered a design too.

​Each December, members of the club make holiday arrangements for Heartland Hospice Services and Friends Home Residents

Our club create holiday favorites for our sale at the Kennett Square Holiday Village Market. Thanks to those that supported us in purchasing in 2022:

LONGWOOD GARDENS FLOWER SHOW

Our club, in conjunction with six other garden clubs in GCFP District 1, held
 a Standard Flower Show at Longwood Gardens in September 2022.

'From Sea to Shining Sea' was enjoyed by club members and Longwood Gardens visitors.

WAYWOOD GARDEN 

Our members maintain a welcoming garden at the entrance to Kennett Square next to Waywood.

With the permission of PennDot, club members maintain the bed throughout the year.

BARNS BRINTON KITCHEN AND HERB GARDEN 

Barns Brinton House is a historic colonial tavern and garden located in Chadds Ford.  Our members have maintained the appropriate period herb and kitchen garden for over 45 years.  The beds were rebuilt in 2015.

FLOWER ARRANGMENTS AT HEAD START IN KENNETT SQUARE

​We provide materials and guidance to three and four year old children at Head Start in Kennett Square so they could make flower arrangements.

FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS AT THE MONTESSORI SCHOOL IN KENNETT SQUARE

​We provide materials and guidance to three and four year old children at the Montessori School in Kennett Square so they could make flower arrangements. ​

KENNETT SQUARE SAPLING GIVEAWAY

​We gave away 150 saplings to local residents on the Farmer’s Market on Arbor Day 2022. The saplings were 150 eastern redbuds (Cercis canadensis). We provided instructions for planting and care.

KENNETT SQUARE BEAUTIFICATION PLANT SALE

​Supporting the beautification efforts in Kennett Square, the members of our club teamed with another local garden club to have our annual spring plant sale.  

Proceeds from the plant sale pay for the planters and hanging baskets that adorn the streets of Kennett Square throughout the spring and summer seasons.

KENNETT SQUARE BARRELS  

​Our garden club and another Kennett Square garden club worked with the Beautification Committee
to plant street barrels in the spring and summer in Kennett Square.
