Scholarships

The Spade and Trowel Club believes in the importance of education.  Starting in 2022, the club awarded a $1000 Scholarship through the Kennett Education Foundation to a Kennett High School graduating senior interested in Horticulture and/or Environmental Studies. Qualified candidates are screened and chosen through the guidance counselors at the school.   This scholarship is being awarded annually, with the amount reviewed each year.  For 2023, $1500 was given to our recipient.  The club, along with individual member donations, awarded $2,500 to our recipient in 2024 and $2000 in 2025.

Students who are eligible for Spade and Trowel Club scholarship may also be eligible for $1,000 scholarships through the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania (GCFP) of which Spade and Trowel Club is a member.  The deadline for GCFP scholarship applications is in February.  The scholarship application is located in the Forms Library of the GCFP website.
