Spade and Trowel Club, member of Garden Club Federation of PA, is an organization that stimulates interest and knowledge in gardening, flower arranging and conservation for the benefit of our membership and the community. Upcoming Events

Seven garden clubs in GCFP District I are holding a Standard Flower Show, From Sea to Shining Sea, at Longwood Gardens, September 10th and 11th.

The flower show is open to the public.  

It is not necessary to be a 
garden club member to exhibit horticulture in the show.
​
Entries will 
be accepted on Friday, September 9th from 1:00pm to 4:30pm and Saturday, September 10th from 7:00am to 9:30am.

WAYWOOD GARDEN 

Maintenance of Waywood Garden, a welcoming garden at the entrance to Kennett Square.

With the permission of PennDot, club members maintain the bed throughout the year.

BARNS BRINTON KITCHEN AND HERB GARDEN 

Maintenance of Barns Brinton House, located in Chadds Ford.  Club members maintain this herb and kitchen garden throughout the year.

FLOWER ARRANGMENTS AT HEAD START IN KENNETT SQUARE

​In May, we provided materials and guidance to three and four year old children at Head Start in Kennett Square so they could make flower arrangements.

FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS AT THE MONTESSORI SCHOOL IN KENNETT SQUARE

​On May 3rd, we provided materials and guidance to three and four year old children at the Montessori School in Kennett Square so they could make flower arrangements.

KENNETT SQUARE SAPLING GIVEAWAY

​We gave away 150 saplings to local residents on the Farmer’s Market on Arbor Day. The saplings were 
150 eastern redbuds (Cercis canadensis). We provided instructions for planting and care.

KENNETT SQUARE BEAUTIFICATION PLANT SALE

​Supporting the beautification efforts in Kennett Square, the members of our club teamed with another local garden club to have our annual spring plant sale.  

Proceeds from the plant sale pay for the planters and hanging baskets that adorn the streets of Kennett Square throughout the spring and summer seasons.

KENNETT SQUARE BARRELS  

​Our garden club and another Kennett Square garden club worked with the Beautification Committee
to plant street barrels in the spring and summer in Kennett Square.
